I present to you the most depressing thing I’ve seen this week.

I was in Khol’s, waiting in the checkout line to pay for the kinds of things you buy from Khol’s.

The woman in front of me bought two 25 dollar gift certificates to Chili’s.  She paid for them with her Khol’s credit card.  As the purchase exchange was completing, the cashier told the woman that there was a 24 hour wait before the cards became active.

The woman panicked.  She said she needed to use them right now.  The cashier was thrown off her game a little and told her that Chili’s might make an exception, but that was policy.

The woman looked very sad as she signed for the gift cards.

Now, I don’t know for a fact that this woman had no way to obtain food and that the only thing she could thing of was to purchase gift cards to a restaurant using a high interest credit card.  I only know that’s what it seemed like.
